Reliable measurement begins with a small number of clearly defined actions. It should help a restaurant make decisions while respecting guest privacy and the limits of online attribution.

Define the conversion hierarchy

Separate micro-actions such as menu views and direction clicks from primary outcomes such as demo requests, booking starts and confirmed reservations. Give each event one documented name and purpose.

Implement consent before analytics

In Europe, optional analytics and advertising technologies should follow an appropriate consent process. Default optional storage to denied, offer equal accept and reject choices, and retain a way to change the decision.

Use consistent campaign naming

Apply a shared source, medium and campaign convention across Google, Meta, email and partners. Consistency prevents one campaign appearing as several disconnected rows in reports.

Connect the booking journey

Track the transition from restaurant website to booking flow and the confirmed outcome where the provider supports it. Preserve useful source information without sending sensitive guest details into analytics tools.

Validate before trusting reports

Test every event on mobile and desktop, accepted and rejected consent, and each supported language. Compare analytics totals with reservation records and investigate large gaps rather than hiding them.

Report at three cadences

Daily checks find broken tracking or overspend. Weekly reports compare channel and conversion movement. Monthly reviews connect spend, bookings, covers and operational context to the next decisions.

  • Document event definitions and owners.
  • Exclude staff and test activity where practical.
  • Never send names, email addresses or phone numbers to GA4.
  • Record known attribution limitations next to results.

A clearer way forward

Turn the guide into a practical restaurant plan.
